If you are the chair of an English department don't ever say the following (or something resembling this) when a librarian is present:
"I don't see why students need to spend the day in the library." Followed by, "Really, students can find everything they need online."
Because if you do say this you run the risk of getting hurt. Props to ME who addressed comments like this is a calm, reasonable, professional, and awesome way. If I'd been in the room I would of responded with something like, "What the fuck? Are you insane? For Christ's sake, how the hell did you get your PhD?" And probably hurting my chances of ever getting tenure in the process.
