Yo, lady.... You, the lady in the parking lot...

Listen to me. Roll down the window of your gas-guzzling, ozone-killing SUV. Put down your cell phone long enough to listen to me. Please.

Okay, look around you. See that blue metal sign in front of the parking spot to your left. That means the spot next to you is a handicapped parking spot. See the blue sign marking the parking spot to your right? It indicates that spot is also a handicapped spot.

Now, just humor me here. Open your door. Step outside of your car. Yes, I know, It's below 50 so it's coooold. Brrrr.... Oh, wait, be careful, the elderly, slightly stooped-over lady parked in the handicapped spot to your left is trying to open her door. Okay, step outside, look below your feet. See those stripes? The blue painted stripes. Notice that they are the same blue used for the sign.

Think about it. Seriously, think about it. Had the thought crossed your selfish mind that maybe, just maybe, those blue stripes indicated that where you are a parked is not a parking spot? Because you know what? It's not. Not only is it not a parking spot, it is an area reserved for those who are handicapped--like the old lady parked next you--so that they can get in and out of their car. Because sometimes those with a handicap need more room due to wheelchairs, walkers, etc.

But nevermind. I guess sitting in your SUV (sans handicapped plates or hangtag, of course) with your headlights on and motor running so that you can talk on your cell phone in comfort is more important than those who may actually need the space.
